On the web, I’ve never seen anything as lifelike as the soft shadows on Daylight Computer’s site.

I liked them so much I wanted to see if I could recreate the magic using pure CSS.

Many hours later of simulating depth with blurs and scales, randomly positioning clusters of leaves, and playing around with mix-blend-mode (the coolest CSS property ever), the ambiance came to life!

Special thanks to the countless staring contests I’ve held with my wall to pick up on how sun-dappled shadows lay :-P
